Tristan Harris spent three years as a Google Design Ethicist developing a framework for how technology should “ethically” steer the thoughts and actions of billions of people from screens. He left Google in 2016 and founded the Center for Humane Technology and the associated “Time Well Spent Movement“. In the essay at the following link he reveals the psychological manipulation built into smart-phones – and more importantly he shows how to move beyond the manipulation through understanding how it works.

  1. Great article. Harris asserts that the slot machine technology emerged by accident. As a Google Design Ethicist, maybe he believed in his work, but I find it hard to believe that Google and ‘others’ would pass up a chance to use technology for mind control. Cell phones are a perfect device to employ the type of technology that one sees in these patents: 1992 US PATENT 5159703 for the “Silent Subliminal Presentation System”.

  2. Elizabeth Rauscher who holds both the 2017 & 1992 patents, did her research in an effort to benefit mankind, as a way to ease pain for those who have serious health impediments. She was motivated by ethics too, and yet her inventions can be traced to “Crowd Control Weapons” as referenced in the Omega Foundation Report:omegaresearchfoundation.org/sites/default/files/uploads/Publications/Crowd%20control%20techologies%2C%202000.pdf
